Many of you have heard or have inquired about the status of the Certified Master Chimney Technician (CMCT). After discussion, the NCSG board of directors recently voted on the future of the CMCT. As a way to honor true mastery of the trade, NCSG will be rolling out the Master Chimney Professional (MCP) program, which will replace the CMCT program. The CMCT's current structure will no longer qualify as a “certification” under the accredited CCP, CCR and CCJ certifications and will therefore be discontinued. The primary difference of the MCP is it's a designation, not a certification. To qualify, candidates must meet the following criteria:
There is no annual fee moving forward, so as long as candidates are approved and maintain their CCJ — they’ll retain the honor of Master Chimney Professional (MCP).
If you are interested in obtaining the MCP designation and have not yet applied for or taken the CCJ exam, you can start that process now. You MUST fill out the CCJ application found here and pay the $50 application fee. After paying the exam fee, you can then register for an online exam or watch for in-person testing opportunities in your area as those are scheduled. You will have 6 months from the date of your application to take the exam.
Last thing: if you have already applied to renew your CMCT in 2023, that will either be credited toward the MCP application fee or can be refunded. Feel free to contact us at certifications@ncsg.org or call 317-837-1500 to discuss your options.
